Inventions of the 20th Century
Computers
Many things were invented during the twentieth century, but the two that have gone a long way are the Television and Computer. The first computer was built in the 1940s by the University of Pennsylvania. Back then most computers were found in government offices. The development of the microchip, is what made personal computers possible. A microchip is a tiny block of integrated transistor circuits. Once Apple and IBM came out with their PC's, at a reasonable price, everyone wanted one.

Television
By 1960 there was an estimate of 85 million television sets in America. The television also created a number of jobs from transmission of programmers to production. In 1940 Peter Goldmark created the color television, but then people still preferred the black and white screen, because the color televisions were irregular and distorted. Thirty years later these problems were fixed and everybody wanted one. With the invention of the TV. also came closed circuits, that helped to explore the bottom of the sea, monitor road traffic and even catch shoplifters.
